Fer the correct pirate look, ye should wear a wide sash with a long tail looped over the belt on top of it. Arrr good quality pirate belts will last fer years. Ye want a heavy duty belt so ye can hang all yar stuff on it like: flintlock pistols, daggers, tankards, sacks of gold dubloons, etc.
