Pirate Fashions First Annual Formal Ball

The first annual Pirate Fashions Formal Ball was a grand success! All who attended where finely dressed in their pirate best, n' we danced the night away to the tune of Rusty Cutlass with Caribbean Pearl orchestrating 3 period dances of the Black Nag, Virgina Reel n' the Spanish Waltz. The dance rehersals prepared many fer these dances, but there was still much silly antics n' fumbled steps keepin' the mood light on the dancefloor. Wild Rover provided amazing food n' great service to our attendees, n' we have many photos we're currently editing to be released in batches though or social media, so any who be interested keep a keen eye peeled fer posted by Pirate Fashions on Facebook. Anyone who may have attended can reach out n' forward any photos they have posted so we can share them on our page. We heard from many couples that they can't wait until next years ball, which we already have in the works!

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Trailers

Well shiver me timbers, the first three trailers fer the next Pirates of the Caribbean Movies, Dead Men Tell No Tales have come out!

The first one be the introduction of the new villain, Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem, as ghost pirate.  It sets up the start of the movie, but not what it’s about, plus there be no sight of Cap'n Jack Sparrow. Maybe Disney is still mad at John Depp fer bringin' that illegal monkey to Australia, as well as getting hurt and stopping productions fer a couple of months.

The second trailer aired during the Super Bowl. This one you don’t see until the very end and he is completely covered with mud. We do get to see Captain Barbossa, Will Turner and the new heroine, played by Kaya Scodelario in the preview. It shows lots of tiny scenes, but still no overall story, other than lots of ghostly pirates.

I have no idea why they decided to set the trailer to Johnny Cash’s “Ain’t No Grave” song as the soundtrack to the trailer, it has a cowboy feel to it.  Why they didn’t use a Keith Richards song instead? I have no idea!

The third trailer came out on March 2nd, n’ it finally tells a bit of the story, instead of just a teaser that doesn’t say anything other than a movie is coming out. It tells the backstory of how he destroyed Captain Salazar n’ why he is after Jack n' all the other pirates. It shows a number o' interactions between Jack and the two new major characters, Henry, a stubborn young sailor n' Carina Smyth, a gifted astronomer. They help Jack find the legendary Trident of Poseidon to battle Captain Salazar.

What we believe to be the Official Spanish theatrical movie poster came out n’ I like it! We finally get a good view of some of the new outfits from the Movie! Jack n' Barbosa sport the same outfits as the last movie, but ye can see the two new character in standard period garb of the Golden Age. Captain Salazar is wearing a Napoleonic Era uniform, which be almost an entire century too early.

They say that this is supposed to be more like the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie with zombie pirates n' it will reboot the series. But I swear they said the same thing fer the last one as well! Maties, we can always hope fer the best n’ plan fer the worst!

POTC5 is due to be release on May 26, 2017 during Labor Day Weekend, so we will see the movie in 3 months time, arrrgh!

Spanish El Galleon Tallship

Most of the wooden tallships we currently see today are US make from around the war of 1812.  Rarely do we see one of an earlier time era of a non-British country.  So it be a delight to see a Spanish Galleons Andalusia or treasure ship that us pirates would love to plunder.  It be used in one of the episodes in the first season of Black Sails.

So when ever a new tall ship be visiting arrrr home port of Tampa Bay, I like to bring some of my newest krewe members to visit.  Some of the black powder weapons seen on Black Sails come from arrrrr shop.

How to Talk Like a Pirate Day Come to Be?

International Talk Like a Pirate Day be a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) n' Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon.  They proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pyrate.   The holiday, n' its observance, springs from a romanticized view of the Golden Age of Piracy.

According to Summers, the day is the only holiday to come into being as a result of a sports injury. He has stated that during a racquetball game between Summers n' Baur, one of them reacted to the pain with an outburst of "Aaarrr!", n' the idea was born.

At first an inside joke between two friends, the holiday gained exposure when John Baur n' Mark Summers sent a letter about their invented holiday to the American writer Dave Barry in 2002.  As the entire universe knows, Dave Barry is a syndicated columnist n' the author of 4,000 books n' the 2nd funniest man in the universe.  Dave would be able to bring attention to Talk Like A Pirate Day in a way that Mark n' John couldn't.

The first e-mail introduced us, told him about our great idea, Talk Like a Pirate Day. We knew he wouldn't be able to resist. Then we offered him the only thing we had, the chance to be official national spokesman fer the event.

It's a great idea, Dave Berry said, but then he asked the fatal question. "Have you guys actually DONE anything about this? Or are you counting on me to carry the ball here?" Very perceptive of him. The way we answered would be crucial in bringing Barry aboard. We decided on the truth, with a lot of ass kissing thrown in.

"Well, we've talked like pirates every Sept. 19, and we've encouraged our several friends to," John wrote in reply. And Mark put it in perspective when he wrote, "We are dinghy-sized-talk-like-a-pirate kinda guys, but you, Dave ... you are like a frigate-huge-sized-talk-like-a-pirate kinda guy."

Growing media coverage of the holiday after Barry's column has ensured that this event is now celebrated internationally. Part of the success for the international spread of the holiday has been attributed to non-restriction of the idea or trademarking, in effect opening the holiday for creativity n' "viral" growth.

Baur n' Summers found new fame in the 2006 season premiere episode of ABC's Wife Swap, first aired September 18, 2006. They starred in the role of "a family of pirates" along with Baur's wife, Tori. Baur also appeared on the June 26, 2008 episode of Jeopardy, where he was introduced as a "writer and pirate from Albany, Oregon.
